Residents of Whitefriars Housing Group properties, as well as other properties in the areas will be offered a range of free products including a device to convert a single flush toilet into dual flush, a showerhead that mixes water with air, tap inserts, and a shower timer. Residents will also be offered an E.ON TV PowerDown to eliminate standby and a thermometer card that indicates whether a room is too hot or too cold.

Residents coming along to an EcoTeam meeting will meet new friends and neighbours, getting together for an hour once a month for five months to discuss the home visits they’ve had, how to save more water, gas and electricty, plus how to recycle more. Tap Into Savings will provide the venue, refreshments and freebies to take home and try.

Local project facilitator for Tap Into Savings, Kate Hunter, said ‘We are very pleased to bring Tap Into Savings to Coventry to help residents save water and energy, which will help reduce household bills and protect local water supplies, plants and wildlife for the future. The project shows how easy it is to make big savings and I encourage everyone to get involved.’

The main function of the Project Facilitator will be to support delivery of the water efficiency home visits and EcoTeams, primarily through promoting the proejct to residents and signing people up for offers. The Facilitator’s main duties and responsibilities will be to:

• Recruit residents through telephoning, door knocking and community outreach (for example, speaking to existing community groups and displaying at local events);
• Generate local interest and promote the project through community-based social maketing techniques;

Waterwise, the leading UK water efficiency body and influential non-governmental organisation, is launching SHARE, Social Housing Action on Resources and Environment, with several partners in three English regions to deliver significant water savings and catalyse residents to make pro-environmental changes. The programme is being funded by Defra’s Greener Living Fund.

The main task of the Evaluation Manager will be to monitor progress of SHARE and its three projects, and to evaluate the projects and the programme overall with regard to environmental and social impacts. Extensive reporting will be required to partners and to Defra.

The Evaluation Manager will be expected to work closely with Waterwise, programme partners (Global Action Plan and Kathryn Rathouse Social Research) and project partners (social housing providers, water companies and others) to evaluate project effectiveness and replicability, and to draw out best practices and learninng. It will be expected that the Evaluation Manager also provide some administrative support to the programme, and also help SHARE Programme Manager and partners with other tasks as they arise. There may be a need for the Evaluation Manager to visit project sites and collect surveys from residents for a couple of days.

In addition to qualitative research and evaluation skills, the Evaluation Manager will also have strong interpersonal and project management skills.

The following are considered essential competencies and attributed for candidates for this post:

Knowledge

• Educated to degree level in related discipline such as psychology, sociology, economics or social research methods although individuals with the right experience will be considered
• An excellent understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
