Job Description
Salary: £20-25,000 per year prorated, depending on experience
Contract: Fulltime, fixed term December 2009 to June 2010, with possibility of extension
Location: Coventry
Responsible to: SHARE Project Manager, Waterwise
Waterwise, the leading UK water efficiency body and influential non-governmental organisation, is launching SHARE, Social Housing Action on Resources and Environment, with several partners in three English regions to deliver significant water savings and catalyse residents to make pro-environmental changes. The programme is being funded by Defra’s Greener Living Fund.
The main function of the Midlands Project Facilitator will be to support the implementation of a water efficiency retrofit and resident engagement project in social housing in Coventry.
The facilitator will work with Waterwise, Global Action Plan, Kathryn Rathouse Social Research, Whitefriars Housing Group, Severn Trent Water, Environment Agency and other partners to support residents in greening their lifestyles through technological and behavioural changes, in a manner that seeks to enable residents to take action individually and as a community.
The Facilitator’s main duties and responsibilities will be to
- Manage a small administrative team that will arrange household visits:
- Recruit residents through, for example, door knocking, speaking at events and holding open office hours:
- Generate local interest and promote the project:
- Serve as the face of the project for residents, listening to their experiences, concerns and ideas:
- Monitor activities on the ground, for example, making sure residents’ complaints are quickly resolved:
- Liaise with project partners and stakeholders; and, to
- Collect surveys from residents and help some compelte surveys
The Facilitator will be expected to attend partner meetings, comment on project plans and materials, and support project evaluation activities.
Please note that some evening and weekend work will be required. You must have access to a vehicle.

Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working at a local level, for example, door knocking, fundraising, volunteering with a local community group, leading an environmental campaign, recruiting volunteers, etc
- Demonstrated ability to work under little supervision (must be self-motivated)
- Highly organised, focused and results driven
- Creative, enthusiastic and sociable with the ability to work with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
- Good oral communication skills, particularly in negotiating and influencing
- Committed to sustainable living
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours with advance notice
- Desirable
- Some experience working with young trainees or a group of volunteers, or managing a small team
- Knowledge of Coventry and its communities
- Knowledge of water saving and other environmental issues, for example energy efficiency
- Willingness to present at formal meetings, and engage with local media
